If it's a couple hundred images it'll be fine for larger imports I'd get the i7 model since it has a fan. I've used an i5 Surface Pro 6 for Canon 5DmkIV images that way without much of an issue.īasic workflow when only on the Surface is import, cull down to the ones you'll edit, make smart previews of those and then you're good to go.
It's fine, just edit off of smart previews. Turned vertically its great for reading a digital newspaper too! I can and do use the Surface travelling as a fully capable WIndows notebook. Otherwise I like the tablet, it replaced an iPad Pro that proved completely worthless for what I wanted to do on it (I still have an old, regular iPad for the entertainment device it is). Storage can be augmented by a mini SD card, comparable to mechanical drive speed for mass storage.
I wish more Windows clam-shell laptops had something similar. The Surface 7 tablets have a great screen, both color and resolution. I use Photoshop and find it is faster to work on 16 bit RGB raw images from 24mp sensors in sRGB-the purpose is to get an image that can be sent out by email or other electronic media, when available, for me. While an i7 would be faster I doubt the differenced would be life changing. These are the same cores Intel ported to Rocket Lake at higher power draws, you can read how that worked out. These are power efficient but comparatively slow compared to other low power Intel CPUs, particularly the clock speed. The 7 line is still powered by first generation 10nm Intel Ice Lake CPUs. I'm typing this on an i5 Surface Pro7 with 8 gb RAM purchased for review/light editing of raw images from remote places, when I used to be able to go those places regularly.
